Course Objectives:
This exciting educational program is designed to present the latest information regarding advances and new challenges facing cardiac rehabilitation by an outstanding faculty.
The presentation topics were selected in response to request by previous attendees and will focus on areas that are currently pertinent to the cardiac rehabilitation provider, present updates on clinical applications, and review results of the latest research in cardiology.
Who should attend: Physicians, Nurses, Exercise Physiologists, Dietitians, Pulmonary Rehabilitation professionals, students, other allied healthcare professionals and cardiac rehabilitation patients.
Upon completion attendees will be able to:
- Identify two processes within their own Cardiac Rehabilitation Program they will change in order to comply with new CMS regulations.
- State two inclusion criteria for current research in cardiology and how the current research impacts clinical practices in cardiac rehabilitation.
- Review the current management of atrial fibrillation, the application for the Watchman Device and its benefit for patients
- Discuss two medications and nicotine replacement therapies that are used to optimize smoking cessation.
- Understand and be able to describe cardiac surgeries and interventions (CABG, MAZE, valve replacement/repair, Bentall Procedure) for the purpose of educating cardiac patients in surgical procedures and post-op guidelines.
- Determine the role of metabolic medications and hormones in the management of diabetes and obesity, to improve clinical outcomes and prevent long-term complications for the patient.
- Specify three physiological pathologies associated with obesity and implement exercise, behavioral and nutritional recommendations for obese patients into their Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
- Recognize the complexities of diagnosing microvascular disease in women and current treatments related to heart disease in women.
- Discern ECG/electrophysiological anomalies associated with specific cardiac surgeries and interventions with appropriate therapy.
- Integrate into practice physical therapy recommendations and body mechanic guidelines for cardiac rehabilitation patients, including anatomical cues for resistance training exercises and guidelines for fall prevention and decreased risk of injury.
